I visited Charlie’s Corner more than ten years ago. It was located at 2 Changi Village Road, at one corner of the hawker centre. Perhaps, that was how the name of the eatery came about from Charlie except that this Charlie does not have three angels to help him mend the eatery.
I like the old setting then. Customers were ushered to the small chairs and tables after placing the orders at the counter. When the food was ready, the staff at the counter would flash a light at the customers, and the customers would receive their food at the counter. Jenny, the proprietor, also a granny (the grandson is three years old), mentioned to me that older customers had problems standing up after a while. That was the reason they had changed away the small tables and chairs. Instead of the customers receiving the food at the counter, they will serve the customers so that the customers would not bump into others along the walkway and spill the food. I miss the old ambience then but the alfresco dining at one corner of the hawker centre facing a large field and cool breeze in the evening was still a draw for our visit.
Tomorrow will be the first day of school for my boys. It will mean another year of diligence and perseverance. And tonight, this dinner will kick start and strengthen our bonding for the year 2012. You will not expect any fining dining at Charlie’s Corner. We had a deep fried seafood platter of squid, fish nuggets, fries, scallops, and prawns; pork chop; sausage platter; and fried chicken wings with their home made sauce: fried chicken is one of their signature dish. Another main draw which attracted my attention is their range of some exotic beers. The nice cold beer complements the deep fried stuff and pan fried dishes.
Charlie’s Corner is an interesting eatery to visit with your friends to catch up with each other, as well as with your family for opportunities of bonding over popular local meaty dishes and cold beers. Tonight, my boys had a splendid good time.
The hawker centre will undergo a 10 months renovation. The stall will be located at Block 5 Changi Village Road. I certainly hope that the new refurbish hawker centre will leave a space for Charlie’s Corner and relive its charms of alfresco dining ambience again.Charlie’s Corner Presently located at Block 2 Changi Village Road #01-08 Tel: 65420867 After Chinese New Year 2012 Block 5 Changi Village Road #01-2045 Tel: 65431754
