This name will ring a bell to the regulars of Kong Kee Restaurant located at Lorong 31 Geylang. I have not been there for ages.
This week marks the first week of the school holidays and it means we can enjoy a long good dinner without worries about school work. Jasmine, the lady boss has introduced new dishes to their interesting menu of deep sea grouper. Most importantly, the restaurant is finally air-conditioned and has provided a valet service to end your parking woes
We ordered our favorite Original Kuala Lumpur (KL) Hokkien Mee. The thick noodle is prepared in dark saucy paste with generous and sinful doses of lard. The mild smell of lard in the noodle goes well with the red hot chili cuts.
If you are one of those who enjoy nibbling bits and pieces of meat out of bones, then the deep-fried crispy grouper fish bone is a must-eat dish. All the parts of the deep sea grouper are not wasted. My 11 year old son enjoys nibbling the collagen-rich skin and bits of flesh on the bones. The dish is flavored by minced garlic and chili flakes except that I will enjoy this dish with several bouts of beer and wine.
The new dish of fried squid in salted egg yolks is so good that we ordered a second serving. Every white of the squid is coated with the sinful salted egg yolk.
Freshness is the key to steamed prawns with garlic, which is another must-eat dish for my youngest son.
The evening is completed with our favorite desserts of mango ice, strawberry ice, almond cream and yuan yang (almond cream and sesame seed paste).
It is one ordinary day with a satisfying evening.Kong Kee Seafood Restaurant 611, 613 Lorong 31 Geylang, 398550 Tel: 64438221
