The sign board is very lame, ‘Delicious Boneless Chicken Rice.’ But it is really delicious. They should change the sign board to ‘Cheap Delicious Boneless Chicken Rice.’ I am very sure no where else you will get a single serving set of fragrance puffy chicken rice, a separate serving of juicy chicken sprinkled with deep fried garlic, a free flow side dish of sourly archar (a traditional Pernarakan spicy pickled dish of pineapple, cucumbers, onions, sliced carrots) to whet your appetite, and a generous flavorful serving of chunky cabbage soup at only S$4!
It is no wonder the queue never stops for one of the most popular dish in Singapore, and for Delicious Boneless Chicken Rice in Katong Shopping Centre.
This is one stall that defies the increasing cost of living and curbing inflation for the mass. It may be a darling for those seeking a decent and delicious meal at affordable cost. It does not matter if this is not a classy food court. It does not matter if the hygiene is not first class. It does not matter if it is crowded with the locals. It does not even matter if the table is not properly cleaned. The queue simply says it all.
Time is pushing the nation to be one of the most expensive cities in the world. The nation is yearning for a Swiss standard style of living. But if the Swiss standard of living is going to cost me S$40 for the same set of chicken rice, then it is not the desire of the ordinary people.
And so the sign board is lame; the food court is crowded during meal times; the hygiene is average but this is the very own Singapore standard for a world class meal and well below world class price, and Delicious Boneless Chicken Rice, at the basement of Katong Shopping Centre, 865 Mountbatten Road, is a savior for the ordinary people, you and me.
